Police conduct a wide search for Mathew Felix Donaghue an 11 year old who escaped from the Toowoomba watch house around 6 tonight after being held on a prior charge. He fled through the door onto the lawn then into the back of Pittsworth post office area and ran toward Margaret Street Dell Hall yard. Police describe him as 6 feet tall brown eyes black shoes and wearing a blue shirt grey trousers and a three days beard.
Sydney police used dogs in a search for Kah See Sing a 50 year old Chinese patient missing from Waterfall Sanatorium since Sunday. He is thought to have wandered away and may have suffered a blackout. Attempts by police and civilians, aided by officers from Buriney, failed to locate him.
A man was arrested near Neidly Bay Magnetic Island after arriving at Townsville by air. He faces charges of breaking and entering a Sydney shop on December 17 and stealing £1500. Detectives from Sydney, with local officers, located him the same day. He will appear in Townsville Police Court today.

The body of Phillip Lawrence Meehan of the Australian Regular Army was fatally injured in Rockhampton on Saturday night after a motorcycle crash. Meehan, attached to a unit at Ingleburn NSW, was riding in Denison Street when the bike collided. He died six hours later in a local hospital from injuries including a fractured skull.
Defence Minister T A Melride and Mr McBride announce higher rates of pay for the three services to meet living costs.
