Petrol prices rise by one penny a gallon from tomorrow morning both wholesale and retail in Melbourne. Brisbane prices listed as 2 1 in super grade 2 0 ordinary and 2 for alcohol blend. Oil price increases follow a Prices Commissioner inquiry.
Gladys May Green testified that a whisky bottle received by her brother Mark Goodman contained a brown liquid with a white powder. She tasted it and felt ill later requiring hospital care. William Henry Bird, 25, a drover, is charged with feloniously administering poison with intent to murder. The incident is linked to January 1938 in Moree where Bird had pursued divorce schemes and shown Green bottles believed to contain poison. The hearing was adjourned to the morrow.
Sydney Monday report states the Commonwealth Government issued National Security Orders to several factories to supply part of 10 000 pairs of military boots. Prices will be agreed or set by arbitration, following Sir Frederick Blewart's pledge in Parliament to obtain boots at reasonable prices.
Sydney report of a second death in two days at Watson's Bay Gap. A woman fell from the Gap and later identified as Rita Degelling, 31, of Lewisham. A man aided by others tried to rescue, but she was fatally injured on the jagged rocks after falling about 250 feet.
Medical authorities from Commonwealth and State, joined by the Australian Army Corps medicos, appoint a consultative committee after meningitis case at Redbank camp. They urge restricted camp visits, grant limited leaves, and anticipate no further spread while monitoring 1700 troops for possible movement within 24 hours if health remains stable.
Canberra reports the Minister for the Army Mr G A Street plans an official visit to Redbank camp soon. The exact date is not yet fixed but it will likely occur early in the camp visit schedule to be drawn up during the Parliamentary recess.

Brisbane report says two prisoners drilled rivets from door bolts with a hand drill smuggled from the workshop.
