The Minister to Transport stated the necessity of push bylaw due to the number of incidents at railway crossings. Future drivers must reduce speed within 100 yards of the crossing to not exceed 12 miles per hour and bring the vehicle to a standstill not closer than 10 feet from the line. The driver must keep a vigilant lookout for approaching trains and stop only when the way is clear. Penalties for breach include up to £10 fine.
Melbourne reports a dramatic development as detectives arrest a man linked to the Leongatha murder of six year old June Rushmer. The suspect, escorted from Dunkid to Leongatha, allegedly admits to involvement in the Rushmer death and related 1920 1932 Inverlochy Ormond cases. He is held at Melbourne jail amid strong public interest.
