Heavy buying yesterday emptied Brisbane butcher stocks and a partial meat supply plan is being formed. Officials plan to release frozen stores and consider country kill and transport to meet public needs while workers press for seniority in ongoing strikes.
Premier Hanlon announced Cabinet approval of £60,000 to gather and assemble on site for a high level bridge over the Barde kin River, linking Home Hill and Asr. The project to replace the flood submerged low level structure aims at a preliminary £1,000,000 cost with plans to proceed rapidly. The bridge will carry road and rail traffic and span about two thirds of a mile.
Alfred Dow aged 32 was discharged after the Crown Prosecutor entered nolle prosequi in the Criminal Court. Acting Justice Matthews ruled Dow did not know his daughter Amelia had murdered Precise Bevan on February 8 1946 and that he assisted her to aid her escape after the Wheat operation.
