Commonwealth to dispatch flying squadron from Australia
The Commonwealth authorities decide to send a flying squadron to the front from Australia, subject to Imperial War Office approval. The unit will be crewed mostly by Australians with a smaller British contingent, and the full complement of 24 officers and airmen plus support staff is to be trained by the Commonwealth Flying School. Colonel Reynolds, director of military operations, is named to command the squadron, with Colonel Donalds brought in for senior staff familiarity. The personnel include wireless, mechanics, and support roles, reflecting a highly technical unit ready for active service.
