The letter com-ind | menees thus. “I never expected to write L. j you from a hospital, but yet tis so. 1 have been quite sick for two weeks, seven days of which I was not able to sit up.1 am now much better.i)ince,til5th2dong-i(tCl-hcntvo(1f(tihtStlitL(iyieIIIIiet1The past four weeks have been weeksof great care and anxiety. Through allthe marching and fighting along the Rhap-pahanoock and Bull Bun I commandedmy company, Lieuts. Metcalf and Briggsor lying sick. On the 30th inst., the day ofour hard fought battle of Bull Run 1 was near used up. Our Brigade was flanked right and left in consequence of McDowell withdrawing his troops. We were on a little hill and exposed for some time to a fire of musketry Canister and Grape Itle shot from three directions, right front and left. Our brave boys gave way in order, i never saw balls fall faster in my lite, al- jt most like a terrible hail storm. The kill- j j ed and wounded were as follows: Able j j Mann was killed out right standing by my side. Seth Wakeman was mortally wounded and has since died. He fought bravely. Corp’l. Leaiuler White was wounded ; have not heard from him since he arrived in Washington. Sarg’t. M. Cooley, wounded in arm, ball not yet extracted; Hiram Cooley, private, shot through the g abdomen, getting well ; James Polk Stevenson, wounded in left arm, slightly, lastaccount was doing well; James Good-jr P speed was severely stunned with a cannon 11 ball, is now able for duty ; Lewis Doran, j(private, and Willard Baker Filler are j f both missing. IfOur Reg. is at Upton Hill about five ■ j S ■ miles from the city. The boys are in fine * a spirits, are getting plenty of soft bread j and other delicacies. Col. McLean is I commissioned Brig. General.We aro all waiting anxiously the arrival of Col. Constable, we long for him to j 1 take command of our regiment.
