mURSDAY, OCTOBER 7, 1M1Planes Were From ! Naval Air Base at 1BrunswickTwo British planes from the Naval Air Station at Brunswick collided in mid-air at 9.50 Sunday morning and plunged to the ground, killing both pilots. Ensign James H. Quillan. USN. Public Relations Officer at the Air Station announced Sunday afternoon.The planes were on a routine training flight when the crashoccurred over North Pownall. about 20 miles west of the Air Station, the Navy bulletin stated. Names of the pilots were withheld pending notification of next of kin. A board of inquiry has been named to investigate the cause of the collision, it was statedThe planes crashed not more than 100 feet apart into a swamp near the Pownal State School.One of the fliers was killed instantly, while the other according to residents of the section attempted a parachute ;ump from the plane. He died later of injuries.One of the planes broke into flames when hit. Debris from the other plane was spread over at least 200 acres of land, according to Thomas B. Fogg of New Gloucester, near whose farm the accident occurred.1*
