All of these were found to be in good condition and the grounds around them recently mowed.Establishment of Monocacy Battlefield as a national historical park is seen as a significant economic - tourist attraction, similar to Gettysburg and Antie-tam.Although in numbers of men killed in battle the Monocacydoesn’t rank with other famousbattlefield parks, it is nevertheless considered by historians as one of the most important engagements of the entire Civil War.The lay of the land and proximity to Washington and Baltimore and Gettysburg, plus the fascination of the maneuvering, plus county maneuvering and intrique of Generals Lew Wallace of the North and Jubal Early of the South, the group emphasized, make this area ideal for use asa multi-purpose national park.
