He was not 1 embarrassed, but seemed anxious to have his debut in public life overwith.Ernest 0. Cox, of Corsicana, who as a member of the 40th legislature was the aythor of the bill, explained the significance of the tablet, declaring it was conceived to perpetuate the memories of those Texans who died during the war in the service of their country. Cox is a formerLegion commander.Judge J. W. McClendon of the court of civil appeals and president of the Texas Fine Arts association, gave a history and description of the tab-1 let.Governor Moody, who followed McClendon to the platform, termed the j tablet “an effort of the legislature to voice the respect of the state for 6,246 men and women, fellow citizens, who laid down their lives for the principles of democracy.“The state would do more, if it were able, to perpetuate the memories of these brave men and women. Since it cannot we are glad that this tablet containing their names will be an inspiration to the hundreds of thousands who will pass by this spot. Knowing this, we are glad to deliver it to the governing body of the University of Texas.” .The acceptance speech was made by Judge R. L.
