They spent one year, 1907-08, in North Dakota and again re- . turned to Osgood. Deceased made ^ his home with his parents until 1915 , and the following three years lie ; '• orked on farms. In 1918 he went \n Laramie, Wyoming, and worked as a fireman on the railroad. He enlist- , ed in the United States navy at Denver April 21, 1918. He received Ins training at San Diego, Mare Island, and Norfolk navy yards. He served six months on the USS Maine, which was then being used’ as a training ship for seamen. When the Maine was dismantled and used as a training target Mr. Hankey was transferred to other ships, among them the USS George Washington and the USS Imperator. He was released from the service September :J0, 1919, and received his discharge in September, 1920. On his return from the service he and his father operated a farm in Emmet county, in 1924 Mr. aim Mrs. Hankey located on a farm near Osgood and lids has since been the family home. Mr. Hankey was a member of the Methodist church. He was an active and influential member of the Veterans ot Foreign Wars and served as county commander in 1939.The Times publisher was well ae-ciuainted with Mr. Hankey and we enjoyed many pleasant visits with him. He was genial and pleasant and it was a pleasure to meet him. He was a very fine gentleman and was upright and honorable in every way. He was a devotea and loving husband and father and will be missed very much by his family and by his other relatives as. well as by hundreds of friends in Palo Alto. The Times extends sincere sympathy to the family in their sorrow.
