In Door, the ex-Kaiser, aged four, stood bareheaded amid snow distributing clothing and food to the poor, with large supplies of wood handed out.

In Berlin nine of ten homes celebrate Christmas traditionally with record church attendance amid food and coal shortages. The relief effort distributes three million frees and 1.6 million food parcels nationwide. Under Julian Streicher directives eighteen Communists are released from Dachau for a relatives gathering. Austrian camps are also releasing many including Jews.
In Madrid Franco presents a brave front as the city endures a Christmas dinner of horse flesh dried peas and lentils amid siege. Soldiers in the trenches will receive tobacco and brandy while Madrid’s children face no presents this year.

In Melbourne a 17 year old Ralph Weise sacrificed his life saving his 76 year old grandmother from a blaze at their two story Richmond home. He returned through smoke to reach the rear shop and dragged the woman to a window before collapsing. Firemen rescued the grandmother but Ralph died from his injuries.
Sydney crowds flood Central Station as holiday makers pack trains and platforms. Railways rush extra services and carriages to meet unprecedented demand while Blue Mountains business hits record levels. GPO reports near fourteen million articles delivered in the past week.
Gales and storms raged in Victoria and New South Wales with dust and heat. An electrical blast hit Sydney suburbs while a youth was struck by lightning at Cronulla. St Peters Marrickville injuries, Enmore houses wrecked, and unroofed buildings, damaged vehicles, and destroyed gardens reported.
Four men died in separate incidents overnight. James Roe, 65, of Camden, struck by a car while Christmas shopping. Arthur Ward, railway porter, cut to pieces by a train near Sydenham while en route to Banksia. A lorry carrying road workers from Yandetta to Bowral crash killed the driver and others after a fall. Arthur Harvey, 27, of Paddington, found dead in a Heathcote car with a rifle and gunshot wound.
