Notre Dame motor boat makes maiden trip to Pilley’s Island

The Notre Dame yacht at Lewisport made its maiden voyage to Pilley’s Island on Monday. It carries about 18 passengers with lavatory facilities and is powered by a 20 horsepower two cylinder Dan head engine. The 45 by 12 to 14 foot craft was built from American plans and cost an estimated three to four thousand dollars.

John Miller Sr. aged 95 died suddenly of heart failure in his Fogo garden this morning. An Englishman, he emigrated to Nfid about 70 years ago and had been a longtime resident of the community.

Capt Jas Young arrives from Labrador with 500 bhis and cites several captains with 250 to 400 bhis. Good fishing at the Arms on Tuesday with most boats taking two to three bhis. North Side of the Bay, Exploits and Western Head yield solid catches. The Ariel reports 700 bhis and Capt D Roberts 400 bhis.
