Public notice warns that black and galvanized stove piping are scarce this winter due to supply difficulties. The public should refrain from ordering pipe except for urgent replacements. Trade members are urged to prioritize essential civilian needs for stove piping.
Harry Oake Searle of the Royal Navy is missing after the HMS Zalu was sunk off Tobruk. Ha is a son of Mr and Mrs Fred Sarle of Fogo. Confederation Life.
Ottawa announces a joint radio series named Comrades in Arms by the Army Navy and Air Force Public Relations Directors. It will air Fridays at 10 45 p m Newfoundland time on the CBC National Network during the war with visits to major Canadian and overseas military establishments.
The Canadian Broadcasting Company launches a landmark radio effort designed for broad public appeal with soldier audiences in mind. The program will air in Newfoundland via CBC facilities and is expected to attract a large listenership.

A message to Mrs Beauchamp from Captain Dalton confirms the loss of Capt. Taverner and his two sons. Flags flew Tuesday marking the arrival of service men on leave including John Dalley Cyril Preston Red Atkins of the Royal Artillery and Bennett Randell of the Royal Navy.
Notice states no motor cars or trucks will leave Canada for Newfoundland unless a Certificate of Essentiality is produced. Conditions for certificates to be issued are expected soon and current applications are in abeyance. Persons planning to visit Canada to buy vehicles should consult the undersigned before departure.
The United States Government requires immediate returns of all essential civilian requirements up to end 1943. Data for Canadian imports should be included. Forms are available from multiple Newfoundland offices and the Priorities Offer. Submissions must be received by 4 p.m. October 19, 1942, to avoid risking no goods during the period.
