A meeting of the Newfoundland Patriotic Association Twillingate Branch will be held in the court house on Monday October 9 at 8 p.m. It is hoped at least twice as many attendees as at the last meeting will be present. The Department of Supply invites applications to sell free of ration obsolete footwear lines and broken size runs not covered by last April's arrangement. Applicants must state landed costs proposed wholesale and retail prices and the number of pairs offered. Deputy Secretary for Supply O E Symes notes the notice dated 22 September 1944.
Confederation Life notes a W P A A meeting on Thursday October 12 at 8 p.m. with D Hopper as secretary. A cargo of flour from Canada was landed last week for local firms.

She plans a speaking tour through Newfoundland towns before returning to Toronto and China.
A new shipment of sticks arrived for the Government wharf and Capt. John White loaded cured codfish aboard his schooner for transfer to another vessel bound for market. Capt. Titus Locke celebrated his eightieth birthday on Wednesday last, September 27.
A report states Sir William Horwood served as Chief Justice for forty two years, the longest tenure in any part of the British Empire.
Dr. E. C. Menzies delivered a broad cast talk Tuesday night in Halifax on child welfare after the war. He is married to Beatrice Preston of Twillingate and has for years led the mental department at the Provincial Hospital in St. John New Brunswick.
The General Tire and Rubber Company disclosed a new process to add carbon black to liquid rubber, speeding production of military tires and hastening civilian tire replacement. Benefits include a 35 percent milling time reduction, similar cuts in manpower, 20 percent power savings, and lower costs.
