The Twillingate presbytery of the United Church met at Little Bay Island on Sept 5 with Rev W B Mercer conducting devotions and officers elected. Committees were named for Christian Education Evangelism Foreign Missions Home Missions Pensions and more while plans for a Young People's Presbytery Union and fall conventions were discussed.
The will of the late Mrs Dora Curren daughter of the late Mr Fred W Ayre was probated recently. The estate valued at 36000 includes a gift of 100 to the poor of Gower Street Church and 30000 to be invested in trustee securities. Income from the investment is to be shared equally among the United Church Church of England and Roman Catholic Orphanages.
Captain Chern, master of the schooner Minnie B, jailed for breach of the Customs Act, secured habeas corpus relief from the Supreme Court. The captain, an American, had the vessel and cargo released and the fine reduced from 800 dollars to 100 after proceedings.

He credits pension benefits and the company with strong employee solidarity through the Workmen's Committee and Benevolent Society.
