In the June 21 1940 proclamation pay rates were set and under review. Alterations now in force include Sergeant rank awarded to all Pirate Observers and W O Air Gunners who qualified. War Pay and rates adjusted for April 19 1941 with specified shillings and pence.
Mr James Gillett an observer from Sydney reports all crew of the torpedoed Esmond are safe. The ship and three others were sunk four days out from England after a submarine was depth charged. About twenty steamers and twenty destroyers formed the convoy with rescued seamen possibly serving on patrol ships.
One trap at Lower Head yielded half a barrel of codfish yesterday morning. The catch consisted of large fish and was reported as of good size with clean water conditions observed.
