Notice calls for bids to furnish Notre Dame Memorial Hospital with 20 gallons of milk daily from June 1 to November 30 and 15 gallons daily from December 1 to May. Bids must meet specifications and be submitted by the stated deadline.
Tender offers opened October 2 1940 for hospital herd eggs potatoes carrots beets parsnips lettuce and more. Inspect premises. delivery by October 2. May June 1940 closing dates set. details at Hospital Office after specified dates. Lowest bid not necessarily accepted.
On the first Sunday after Trinity National Day of Prayer observed in St Peter's and St Andrew's with Holy Communion at eight, Matins at eleven and Evensong in the evening. Sunday School at two thirty and additional prayers offered at all services for God's help during the national crisis.
The South Side United Church lists 8 a.m. service of intercession and 11 a.m. sermon by Rev. T. J. Pitt with 2 30 p.m. Sunday School and Bible Class. North Side offers 11 a.m. Layman and 2 30 p.m. Sunday School and Bible Class, 7 p.m. Rev. Pitt. A thought for Sunday urges prayer during the Empire Day period with an 8 p.m. intercession service.
The Salvation Army schedules an 11 a.m. Holiness Service with a Prayer Meeting, a 1 p.m. Praise Service, and a 7 p.m. Great Salvation Service with Prayer Service. A joint Intercession Service with United Church, South Side, at an unspecified time is noted. All local officers and soldiers are urged to attend. God save the King and bless the Empire. All are welcome.

An appeal from the Nild Patriotic Association notes many veterans returned from overseas after the last war failed to secure work due to lack of jobs. It cites shell shock and minor wounds causing pension gaps and says the current appeal offers hope with employment assistance once the war ends.

A Cottle's Island man serves 14 days for close under false pretences from last winter.
The Scar Lone Flyer arrived at Grey Island where Frank Pardy was to collect seal for Ashbournes Ltd. The 8 S Northern Ranger reached Battle Harbour on Tuesday after a delay south of Cape John. With winds stabilizing east and northeast, ice may not reach the area.
The Trade Commissioner for Newfoundland in London urges that parcels and letters sent to his office clearly indicate whether the addressee is in the Royal Navy Army Royal Air Force Mercantile Marine or the Newfoundland Overseas Forestry Unit. Lack of unit designation has caused delivery delays.
Twillingate May 21 1940 Miss Clara Osmond of Robin's Cove celebrated her 72nd birthday on May 16 with friends and gifts. An old Salvation Army soldier she attended services for years but is now confined at home by age and illness.
