Newfoundland Legislative Council Seeks Protection of Treaty Fisheries
The Legislative Council and House of Assembly appeal to the British Parliament for protection of Newfoundland treaty rights amid calls to repeal or modify an older fisheries law. They argue changes since 1887 1888 and 1890, population growth and civil life developments require continued defense of British and Newfoundland interests against French demands. A joint committee address condemns unilateral arbitration and urges support for negotiated rights and arbitration outcomes in favor of Newfoundland. The delegation includes A W Harvey Moves Muncue Sir W V Whiteway G H Emerson and A B Morine. The house adjourned to Monday at 4 o'clock.
