Empire Day activities raise school spirit with a Girl Guide concert in Alexandra Hall on Tuesday May 7. The programme features patriotic songs recitations drills and the crowning of the May Queen along with a sketch The Old Maids Convention by the Guide Association and Rangers. Admission is general 10 cents reserve 20 cents with ice cream and candy for sale doors open 7 30 p m concert at 8 p m.
For sale a 13 ton schooner in good condition. For particulars apply to Edward Young, Blacksmith, Twillingate. One small schooner or other details follow in the readable fragment.
The Rev. Goodland travels to Moreton's Harbour today to lead religious services for the community, continuing his pastoral duties as scheduled.
The department of public works now runs public wharves replacing the railway. No charge for baggage at the public wharf and only a small fee for freight not stored but landed on the wharf. The new regulations are nationwide in scope.

Lizzie Harbin from St John’s and Marjorie Wood from Dalhousie came by Clyde on Tuesday. George Hodder and son Harvey from Boston via Lewisporte arrived Tuesday. Kate Anstey arrived from Boston and will reside with her son George Anstey North Side. Skipper John White from St John’s reports passing navigation exams for mate’s ticket. Ranger Inspector S rater went to Lewisporte by Drover’s motor boat. On return Mr S Loveridge travelled to Catmanville by her. Obadiah Manual and son visiting from Loon Bay stay with F Manuel. H J Reader on seasonal trip to Twillingate and Bay points for Garneau Ltd of St John’s.
Grace Boehner and William Gillette master arrived Monday evening from St Johns with freight for Dog Bay Herring Neck Twillingate Moreton's Harbor and Bridgeport. Maggie Blackwood with a load of sticks also arrived bound south. Motor ships Bessie Marie and Lone Flyer left Sunday morning. Sagona tows Drum Barker from Roberts Arm to Indian Bay. Robert Gordon Titus Locke brought birch wool from Toon Bay to Hodge Brothers last week.
Sunday May 22nd is declared a Day of Prayer throughout Nili by Royal Proclamation. The observance aims to seek success for the coming harvest on land and sea and general prosperity.
Adjutant A J Rideout planned to travel to Change Islands on Monday with Skipper Sam Waterman aboard Roberts motor boat. He will attend Moreton's Harbour next Sunday week, the 29th of May, to conduct jubilee services.

The Empire Day Movement head, Viscount Bledisloe, sends greetings praising King George VI. He notes the king’s coronation pledge to welfare of subjects and urges unity, industry, integrity and service to God and man within the British Commonwealth to promote peace and progress. London May 24, 1938.

Sunday services listed for St Peter's and St Andrew's on the North Side include Matins at 11 a.m. and Evensong at 7 p.m. St Andrew's has 3 p.m. Evensong. Mr T GW Ashbourne attends at 1 a.m. and Rev J A Burnen BA speaks at 7 p.m. A hearty welcome is extended especially to the afternoon session with special speakers. All church groups meet in Marshall Hall first.
The Salvation Army schedule lists an 11 a.m. Holiness Meeting and a 3 p.m. no service. The corps unites with United Church Bi Centenary Celebration for a 7 p.m. Great Salvation Service where old Comrades receive Long Service honours. Adjutant Rideont will be in Yatjre.
