Fall in Local Herring Supply Magnifies Trade Gaps
The Minister of Marine and Fisheries notes the failure to obtain locally prepared smoked herring while hundreds of boxes of imported smoked herring enter the market. He laments the skewed trade that profits from processing delays, and visitors from Canada, the U.S.A., and England are told of abundant codfish and herring shortages. Local supplies are described as scarce despite high demand.
