Dr J Kovopka from Memorial Hospital and Rev T J Pitt, chairman of the Board of Education, visited U C Schools to give practical talks on tooth care. The advice was helpful and parental cooperation was urged. The dentist plans further school visits on the two islands.

The recently installed Lord Mayor Sir Frank Bowater faces a solemn week as Walter Osmond of Robins Cove dies of tuberculosis. Osmond's passing is reported as the city attends to the loss while governance continues.
Mr Claude Cooper does work in harness making for horses and this may start a small industry in town if patrons support him. The craft is offered at a reasonable rate.

Bowaters Newfoundland outlines a cutting plan for 1939 and 1940 showing 134000 cords to be cut on the East and South West Coast in 1939 with 116750 on the East Coast. The memo notes Corner Brook mill wood deliveries averaging 213000 cords annually over the past decade and predicts a major rise above that level in the coming years.
