Back Harbour Fire Destroys Home Of 84 Year Old James Blackler
An eighty four year old resident, Mr. James Blackler, fought a house fire for hours and was rescued unconscious as flames consumed his Back Harbour home. Neighbors Dorman Spencer Wesley Price and Eric Simms alerted others, aided in rescue, and prevented spread to outbuildings. Blackler collapsed from exhaustion after eight a.m. fighting the blaze and was treated for shock before hospital care.

Price order amends margarine pricing in Newfoundland district
Published by authority under defence price regulations the 23rd of January 1950 minister Philip S Forsey amends Schedule A and B of the Food Current Prices Order 1949. The new maximum price per pound for Solo Good Luck Margarine is 27 30, and for Maximum Price Margarine 31, effective in Newfoundland Labrador south of the boundary line including St Bar Bay and Fogo districts. The order sets the price changes for supplies in the specified south coast region from Box Harbour 350 onwards.
