Final appeal urges Newfoundland residents to invest in War Savings Certificates before the closing date of December 31 1944. Officials emphasize national security and homefront support as citizens are urged to buy now.
The Mid Ranger Force, praised as a premier law enforcement unit, welcomed a new cohort after a demanding training course at Kilbride Headquarters. The recruits are understood to be awaiting assignments to outport posts as Trade Review notes.
The Clarenville designed by W J Rowe of Halifax uses a Vivian diesel engine with a supercharger. It is 135 feet long, 28 feet wide, and 12 feet deep with a capacity a little over 300 tons and limited passenger accommodation. It has entered service with the Railway.
Seaman John Luther of Battle Harbour wed Miss Hilda Curl from Fox Jr Labrador at St Marys Church St Johns on Monday. The couple was joined by Rev A B S Stirling with John son of Mr and Mrs Martin Luther.
Easterly winds linger while offshore breezes show for eight to ten days. An iceberg nears shore near the harbour as moderate weather allows fishermen travellers and woodmen some relief. Snow is sparse, skies are cloudy with light flurries, and few days for fish drying. Much catch may be stored until spring unless sold as east bulk quality.

The Royal Artillery Royal Navy and Airforce recruiting is suspended temporarily. Canada had already paused Airforce recruitment. No Newfoundland recruits have overseas for the Navy in three years except tug service. Artillery notes sufficient replacements for the 166th and 59th Regiments are overseas.

Patrick P J O Niell M B E chief of police died in hospital at St Johns on Wednesday. Born 1883 at Witleas Bay Ferryland District he joined the force at age 20 and commanded a patrol ship in 1916 during World War I. He later did magisterial work in Labrador and led the office after Hut chings retired, with one daughter Mary married to Haig Scott. Asst Chief Spurrell expected to fill the post.
Schr Dauntless of St Johns delivered fish freight to local firms on Saturday at Path End after loading from Lushea Bight.
Church schedules list St Peter St Andrews United Church Little Harbour North Side Crow Head and Salvation Army services by Major Wheeler and Pentecostal Assembly. Times include Holy Communion Matins Evensong Sunday School Bible classes and prayer meetings with evening evangelistic services.
