A freighter bound for the Grenfell Mission stopped over on Monday carrying bulk fish. The vessel was en route south after unloading or loading supplies, reflecting ongoing support for the mission.
Mr J R Smallwood has departed for the Gander area to assume supervision of a piggery. The move places him in charge of farm operations and related duties at the new site.

The Education Departmental Act 1939 amendment proposal has passed first and second readings and is published with objects and reasons to invite public comment. Written comments must be sent to I. J. Samson, Secretary for Education, by Wednesday December 15 1943.
Objects and reasons justify creating an Executive Officer post in the Department of Education to represent the Salvation Army. The bill cites growth in membership and the denomination’s expanding educational services as the basis for action.
A bill amends the Education Departmental Act of 1939 redefining the Executive Officers to include one member each from the Church of England Roman Catholic Church United Church of Canada and Salvation Army. It creates a Council of Education to advise the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Education and set policy.
Mrs Arthur Apstey Backny had a twin birth, a boy and a girl, at the Hospital recently. On Monday a son was born to Mr Cecil Facey at the Hospital.
