Salmon Movements Along South Coast May Shrink Canner Output
Salmon movements on the south coast and Avalon are seen as among the smallest in years due to storm damage and high water that quickened fish to spawning grounds. Canned salmon, largely from the south coast and sold locally, may fall short of normal needs and stay pricey. Fishermen note two salmon runs the large fish headed to spawning grounds around 28 and the caplin salmon that will not spawn this season. Official study on salmon habits appears limited with no clear data on free water behavior to confirm fishermen’s theory.
