Insolvent Debtors Court Proceedings Heard in London
In the insolvent debtors court on September 29 Chief Commissioner Bowen presided with commissioners. Benjamin Watts, a butcher, faced claims from Samuel Braddock and others regarding an arrest for debt and alleged collusion. Braddock testified to a long examination aimed at showing the arrest was unfriendly. The detaining creditor admitted no ledger entry for the loan, fearing his wife’s knowledge, and cited his integrity. The chief commissioner debated the credibility of the creditor’s evidence and discharged the insolvent Watts. William Wild, opposed by his landlord Mr Rigg and supported by Mr Cooke, had a lengthy case adjourned to October 28, with a potential discharge if 651 is paid before then. Commissioner Bowen urged payment to avoid remand and lengthy future judgment. The court sat late and planned to hear motions the next day.

Obedience of Son Questioned in Parish Support Case
In a decision before the Lord Mayor, solicitor Mr Street sought an order to compel Mr Stephen Underwood to pay 23s 6d weekly to Yalden parish for his feeble father's relief from the workhouse. The son argued he already bore family costs and sent presents, while the parish contended the new Poor Law allowed relief but did not require son support. The Lord Mayor urged payment of a half crown weekly for bread, while noting the act of Elizabeth and the new law's implications. The parish already provided 5s weekly to the elder Underwood, and the son's additional support was debated.
