London and Westminster Bank receives royal charter approval
The third section of the Bank Charter Bill grants the Bank of England exclusive issuing privileges while allowing joint stock banks to operate in London within sixty five miles. Nobles and gentlemen announce formation of the London and Westminster Bank with shares of 100 each and an initial deposit of 34 per Share. Applications for Shares are invited to the Secretary at the bank’s offices in Great Winchester Street Old Broad Street and Pall Mall.
