King’s Plate and Town Plate racing at 100 Guineas and 501 D

At the meeting Lord Egremont’s Nonsense and Duke of Grafton’s Clarionet walked over for early prizes. The race card included a 50 sovs sweepstakes for 2 year olds, with notable entries by Zinganee and Arbaces. Aurora led then faded near the line, Arbaces won by a head, Ginnums and other horses placed behind. Produce Sweepstakes awarded to Ginnums, Arbaces also prominent. A match for 60 sovs saw Duke of Portland’s Skimmilk defeat Swallow easily.

Omnibus Rivalry Case Before Recorder

Yesterday morning sessions before the Recorder and two aldermen considered a commitment and assault case. Edward Jennings, omnibus owner and driver, was found guilty of violently assaulting John Livesey, rival omnibus owner and conductor, with witnesses F King and Henry Marshall supporting the prosecution. The court sentenced him to one month in Giltspur Street Compter, a 5 shilling fine, two years good behaviour recognizances, and further imprisonment until the fine and securities are paid.

Assault and Seduction at Marlborough Street Court

Mrs Catherine Davis accuses Mrs Benjamin and Mrs Israel of beating her. the case ends with each party paying for damages. Separately, Mrs Elfick is charged by John Leigh for assault after a seduction allegation involving his 17 year old partner and a child.
