Inquest on the Late Publisher of the Sun
An inquest at the Swan with Two Necks investigated Frederic Murray Hourgan, 26, publisher of the Sun, who cut his throat with a razor. Melancholy accident at Glencaple Quay claims seaman
A seaman from John Stowell on the St. Andrew of Whitehaven drowned while returning from the quay on a raft. Severe flood tide swept him into a rope entanglement. a drifting sloop struck the rope, he lost grip and sank. Quarry body recovered with injuries to hand and arm. Remains interred at Cacrigverock with a large funeral in Dumfries and nearby.
