Letter to the Editor on Poor Laws Reform and Saint Pancras Parish

A reader, Thomas Biurply of Hampstead road, questions newspaper claims about parish opposition to the Poor Laws Amendment Act and defends a local self-governing system used since 18 64. He notes the parish avoided the Act’s changes, especially in the bastardy account, and accuses Reformers of aiding enemies. He also mentions a forthcoming edition of Lord Brougham’s Discourse on Natural Theology.
