IMPERIAL PARLIAMENT NEWS FROM JULY 13 1837
Lords debate multiple bills including the Cruelty to Animals and Public Works in Ireland. The Reform Bill split opinions with key figures urging passage or opposition. Petitions on debt, church rates, and workhouse chaplains provoke strong exchanges as committees report on railway and other bills.

Travelling in the South by Wiss Wartineau
An account of a daylong journey from Richmond Virginia toward Raleigh describes river crossing without a bridge, a sunken wheel rescued by passengers and local help, a hungry wait for breakfast, a broken coach, and a final arrival in Raleigh after a grueling, cold trek through a forested landscape in March 1635.

Excursion of Directors Rushes to Boxmoor by Rail Line
A national railway venture event saw directors and titled guests depart from Euston-grove in two trains to Boxmoor on a 23 mile journey. The first train of fourteen carriages carried 150 people, the second with sixteen carriages carried 200. Officials noted rapid progress, canal barge spectators, and extensive viaduct works. An accident at the end injured Mr. Campbell and Sir John Raid, but they recovered with restoratives.

Destruction of Weirs on Suir and Ross Rivers
About eleven o'clock Saturday a mob attacked salmon weirs between Waterford and the sea. Dozens of boats descended the Suir and Ross with weapons, destroying nearly all remaining weirs. Authorities moved to prevent unrest, yet no major clashes occurred. The Ross and Suir incidents follow recent Wexford assizes verdicts and renewed tensions over Scotch weirs.
