Magnificent steam ship Montrose arrives on Thames
First arrival of the Montrose, built at Greenock by Messrs John Scott and Sons, with engines by Stott Sinclair. The two 120 horsepower engines propel the vessel, which sailed from Greenock Friday and reached London Sunday afternoon after a 42 hour voyage. Captain David Murray leads the ship with fifty four beds and ample passenger accommodations including a ladies state cabin. The Montrose, a handsome Clyde design, carries linen, salmon and agricultural produce in cargo and appears as a marine exemplar in symmetry and finish poised for pleasant journeys between Montrose and London.

Turbulent Battle of the Boyne celebration alarmed county
Freeman's Journal reports a violent oath bound procession around magistrates and police stations during the Battle of the Boyne anniversary. No arrests or identifications were made as crowds shouted drum tunes and proclamations, prompting calls for swift government action to protect the public from armed bands.
