Petition Debates Over Tithes and Thellusson Will

In the Lords a petition from St James's Clerkenwell urged theatre control by the crown. A Carberry petition against lay tithes, led by Lord Templemore, sought amendments to the Tithe Composition Act. The Marquis of Downshire faced opposition over alleged oppression, while Lord Lyndhurst moved to suspend the standing orders on private Acts for Thellusson. Eldon and others warned against setting dangerous precedents as Chancery costs and master fees were debated.
