Court Notes and Parish Bond Disputes in Essex Case

In London Evening Journal of July 5 1837 a Chancery appeal over legacies and asset marshalling revisits a testator’s plea against executors. Judge Wigram and Sir Walker hear the demurrer as judgment is postponed. A Lambourne parish matter ends with acquittal after a 1810 bond dispute, and a poaching case concludes with the jury clearing both defendants.

Michael Howe testifies from Gloucestershore that on January 20 in Uxbridge he visited the Standard public house with three and a half sovereigns in his pocket. He claims the female thief stole the money while the man and woman jostled him, a struggle followed, and the couple then frequented another pub where he paid and was assaulted. The pair were seen with the prosecutor by the Standard’s ostler and by the Green Sau landlord, who connected all parties.

Eastovian Dwarf in London Assault Case Captivates Crowd

In a London hearing a tiny Eastovian dwarf, 36 inches tall, was charged by a young woman with assault. The prisoner lived at 170 Holborn with his wife, who accompanied him.
