Court actions on custody and contempt in common pleas
The court considered surreptitious removal of children from Weymouth as contempt and discharged the rule. The Attorney General sought absolute attachment for not delivering up the children, but stayed the attachment for a month to allow compliance. In related cases Hollingsworth v Brags involved amending pleas, while Simes v Goodfellow saw the arbitrator's award upheld and the rule discharged.

In a January ruling Lord Abinger set aside a verdict in a suit for a wife’s teeth charges, noting no real work was shown and the jaw’s dimensions resembled clothing measures. The rule to grant a new trial or stay proceedings was made absolute. A second seamen wage case in Liverpool saw damages of 231 with a similar rule discharged.

The Coercion Bill and Ireland’s Tumultuous Year 1836
A Dublin Papers summary notes Scottish and Irish tensions over coercion measures and police expansions in Tipperary and surrounding counties. It references magistrates asking for more police, local resistance to taxation, and a deputation from Dublin Castle querying the Birr quarter sessions chair decision. It also mentions bank stock sales in London, Mr. O Dwyer’s visit to Drogheda, and Orangeism activity including a Belfast circular from January 1836 calling for unity within the Orange Lodge and signaling continued factional agitation.
