Stopping Up Roads and Footpaths in Apstead Berks
A report of a Reading Assizes case in 1834 on whether roads and footpaths in Apstead parish were public and legally stopped up. The court held the roads public and not properly stepped up, so the verdict favored the Crown. Additional motions at the Court of Common Pleas addressed a quo warranto against Shaftesbury town councillor election and a time extension for recognizances. A separate case Brown v Stradling recaps a malicious prosecution claim following an acquittal for felony and the judge’s directions, with the rule granted for a new trial.
