Session of the House on Malt Tax and Church Issues in Parliament

The House opened with Baines taking the Leeds seat as the Soulcoates and Liverpool Small Tenements Bills reports were moved. Petitions from Ashburnham dissenters and Essex farmers pressed relief from malt tax or a property tax, while others urged taxes and tithes reform. Debates touched on church patronage in Scotland, church and state relations, and calls for a commutation of taxes, with Lord John Russell and Mr Baring urging careful consideration. The session also heard on Ireland tithe and union repeal petitions as well as continued unrest and a fatal assault report from a Dublin-area incident.
