Intrepid Conduct of a Female in Clerkenwell House
On Monday evening two felons entered the Red Lion in Coppice-row Clerkenwell. Mrs Bowley pursued one thief who hid in a water closet where officers found a phosphorus box and matches. The prisoner John Richard Elliott, a former publican, was committed to the House of Correction for three months after Mrs Bowley identified him. The same report notes the British ship Egyptian arriving in London Docks from New York with a valuable cargo valued at over 50,00.

In the Insolvent Debtors Court on December 20, sixteen cases were disposed of. Creditors resisted assignee roles due to cost, but the court noted low assignment costs and dividend benefits. George Brodie, known as Wild the comedian and former Queen's Theatre proprietor, was discharged after creditors unopposed. His debts included many theatre workers and his mother Mrs. Ron Brodie owed £23,200. The court ordered discharge.
