The coroner's inquest at the King's Head Islington examined John Hughes aged 62 who killed himself with a horse pistol. Anne Smith testified he stood at the gate in a melancholy state before the shot shattered the left side of his face. He died en route to a local shop. Jury returned a verdict of insanity.
