Public Imposition Alleged by Kent Sussex Fraud Ring

Reported activity by Michell and Woods shows they gather large sums from the public across Kent and eastern Sussex from Rye to Lewes under fraudulent pretenses. A forged fire loss claim at Smarden is swapped to Mayfield in Sussex, aided by signed rector and churchwardens attestations. Woods, around thirty, speaks fluently in the scheme while wearing a frock and crape on his hat. The Kent Herald notes the deception.
