Benevolent Association Aids London Poor With Coal And Potatoes

A London Coffeehouse meeting of subscribers to a charitable association reported on the season’s work. They distributed 1008 tons of coal and 159 tons of potatoes to about 6000 families (30,000 people) from December to March, pricing items cheaply to aid the destitute. The report warns of harsher winters and changes to Poor Laws, urging voluntary help from respectable citizens.
