House of Lords debate on Municipal Reform and Church of Scotland petitions

The House of Lords adjourned before five o clock after long debates. Petitions from Wellington, Grafton, Westminster and others urged the Municipal Reform Bill. Westminster cites delayed evidence and calls for unimpaired provisions. Scotland Church Commission discussed. Melbourne defended impartiality and diversity of creeds. Poole, Gravesend, Rochester and Manchester petitions for reform were presented amid lively exchanges. Lord Melbourne read Manchester figures at 82 832 signers in ten hours. The session touched on church establishment, corporation reform, and limit of polls with further actions anticipated.
