In the Insolvent Debtors Court, William Philip Masters Croft of Pall Mall sought discharge aided by Mr. Cooke and Mr. Woodroffe. He was discharged under the Act, after previous remands, with five years deemed expired. Other cases included Joseph Painter, tasked with three notes, discharged. James Maraden, a tailor, sentenced to twelve months. and a public-house owner implicated in a disputed loan and a stamp misdating fraud, adjudged on a remand.
In Croynon Ava 9 CIVIL SIDE Lord Denman presided. The plaintiff sought damages for an assault by a church rates collector who refused to leave the master’s house after being asked. Chitty and Colert aided by Penfold and two women allegedly attacked Grinstead, with Chitty cutting his pocket and stealing two shillings, shoes, and a knife before fleeing. The jury acquitted them on the alibi questions, while John Phillips aged 11 pleaded guilty to stealing boots and hinges, with sentence deferred.

In Deptford, the wife of a police constable named Cannon leapt into the riveryard water when her four year old son wandered in. With an infant in her arms she dragged him from danger, then held fast across a mooring chain until the collier crew hauled them to shore amid cheering onlookers.
