Beer Houses Questioned in Commons Debate

In the House of Commons on Aprit 18 a motion to form a committee on beer houses was moved by the Marquis of Chandos to explore better regulation rather than abolition. MPs cited 26 000 beer houses, concerns over pauperism, regulation gaps, and calls to place beer houses under public-house rules. The committee was appointed with Mr Clay and Mr Humphery named.
