Tea growing in Victoria a proposed industry opined
An Afghan visitor Said Goolab Shah urged Victoria to plant tea along Gippsland foothills to meet rising demand. He compared local soils and climate to India and Ceylon, claimed high yields with minimal pests, and suggested initial labor from Indian and Ceylon workers. He warned cost of white labor could hinder success if dependency on imported labor continued.
