Toodyay VE and VP Day Victory Celebrations 1946
Glorious weather drew Toodyay citizens to VE and VP Day festivities. A long procession from Newcastle Hotel to the sports oval showcased fancy costumes and decorated vehicles judged by H. Colebeth, K. Gorgett, and Mrs. Colebeth. Salvation Army from Northam led the day, with a torchlight procession and a packed Town Hall late evening. Prizes were announced for best floats and costumes, with numerous sports events and district visitors marking the historic celebration. Notable attendees included Lt. Thorn MLA and local pioneers. The record notes generous prizes and a communal sense of pride in the town’s effort and enjoyment.
