The Toodyay Troop held a very successful Sunday parade to learn machine gun use with visitor Warrant Officer Tunstill from the ith battalion and Lieutenant Egan from Perth. The Lee Steere Cup golf competition by the Toodyay Golf Club is indefinitely postponed due to poor links.
A women’s hairdresser shop opens as Mrs Cussetto’s SaLoon on Tuesday June 8 1937 with phone number 82 for appointments.
Dorcas notes two ex-residents Mr and Mrs Butterly visiting The Byne at Wattening and others seen near Hay Street hat shops in Perth. Among visitors are Miss Thompson, Miss Sinclair, Messrs Tunstill and Egan who came to Toodyay, plus H G A Sansom from P M G department staying at Victoria Hotel. Other locals and holiday makers include Moore the insurance inspector at Newcastle Hotel, Mrs Isaac Doust at Rosedale, and Miss Ferguson and Miss Parker celebrating birthdays.
The Coondle Hockey Club hosts a Saturday night dance at the Coondle hall to raise funds for sending a team to Perth for Country Week hockey. Last year the club won a cup with its Perth trip delighting supporters.
Northam shows the old story Wife vs Secretary with Clarke Gable as the husband Myrna Loy as his wife and Jean Harlow as the secretary. The film runs tonight tomorrow and Monday with Sunday screenings recommenced at the Capitol.
The C W A Rest Room informs women it is available for their convenience and invites use at any time. Firewood is being supplied and keys are available from Mrs Haymes at the Wesouree Tea Rooms.
The Toodyay Sub-branch R.S.L. met at the Victoria Hotel on Wednesday night and decided to hold a dance later in the season. The combined football clubs hosted a successful community concert and dance attracting a large crowd with musical and humorous items. A few noisy interruptions were noted during the program, and dancing continued until midnight after the concert.
Mr Aussie Newmann a farmer of Carani loses control in his car near Calingiri after leaving the Anglican Church hall early Saturday. A group of four were flung out with serious bruises and Mrs RS Ferguson suffered a serious head injury and was taken to Wongan Hospital. The other passengers were bruised but returned home. Mrs Ferguson is daughter of Kate C. J. Loy e of Toodyay.
