Toodyay Fire Brigade Competes in MerREDIN Demonstration
The Toodyay Fire Brigade fielded eight members at Merredin for the Bi-Demonstration with Norseman and four metropolitan brigades. Captain Lionel Anderson led the team and Des Haywood filled a last minute hydrant position. Eric Patten placed second in the One Man Y Event earning a crystal chair, while the hose fours provided crowd entertainment with a near 103 second run. The outing supplied valuable experience for Kalgoorlie Easter demo preparations.

Late William J Donegan remembered as local sportsman
The death of William J Donegan at Toodyay draws tribute from a life spent on farms and in sport. Born 1868 at Baillup, he worked as a teamster, helped pioneer mining and football, captained Toodyay veterans in cricket, won a Country Week bowling medal, and coached as a umpire. He married Margaret Readon and left five children. The funeral was held January 29 at Toodyay Church of England cemetery.

Toodyay mourns Elizabeth Ferguson aged 87 who died at home after a long decline following a thigh fracture four years ago. She was the last surviving Wroth sibling and widow of John Ferguson a carpenter turned baker. Funeral at Toodyay Catholic church followed by burial in Toodyay cemetery. Survived by husband and son Acton.

Death of William J Rowles A Northam district farmer
William James Rowles aged 73 died January 20 at Kay Farm Cottage Toodyay after a long life in farming. Born Wongamine he traveled on horseback as a child delivering mails and later married Nora Brennan in 1910. They raised 14 children 10 sons and 4 daughters with many grandchildren and relatives attending the Northam cemetery funeral.
