Reasons For Extending Piawanning to Pithara Railway

The proposed extension from Piawanning would end a dead end 20 miles from the Wongan Mullewa line at Pithara, enabling economical operation. Between Pithara and Bolgart the land is ideal sheep country, linking to the Midland Railway for store stock. current routes cost 100 miles extra freight. A dry stretch raises risks for stock owners, while a new Piawanning to Pithara link would open a chaff and oats market for local growers and offer an advantage over Northam in selling to the Murchison.
