London February 4 The Chronicle reports suppressed papers intended for public release discuss the Society of Jesus and its policy. In Portsmouth the cruiser Blenheim bearing Prince Henry of Battenberg’s remains entered the harbor with guards on deck. The Alberta arrived from Cowes with the royal family aboard and a service was held in the temporary Chapelle Ardente.
Cleared too late reports indicate Lee Sellers was innocent in the alleged murder and robbery ten years earlier. Lizzie Hickman on her deathbed confessed Ike Wright as the real killer. Wright is being chased by officers as new details emerge across several cities.
Rome reports no word from General Baratieri since Saturday fueling uncertainty over whether he advances on King Menelik or has fought a battle. Me nelik frees ten Italian officers held at Makalle as hostage after Italian forces evacuated. Rome notes 30000 more troops ordered to serve. Herald dispatch says Crispi will stay in power. Humbert urges caution over Menelik’s numerically superior forces. Prince Fleury of Prussia arrives with Kaiser’s message for an interview.
The Reichstag opened debate on a proposed common civil code for the German empire with heated exchanges. The bill, reshaped since 1588, faces Catholic and other religious concerns. Sovra February 4 In a formal proclamation Prince Ferdinand of Bulgaria will announce the conversion of his eldest son Prince Boris to the Greek church with the ceremony set for February 9 at the royal residence.

He urged closer Anglo American cooperation to advance liberty in both nations, and asserted Britain could fulfill Providence duties without fear of foes or divisions. Cecil Rhodes reportedly arrived at Lonney on Feb 4.
In diplomatic circles the feeling grows that the United States and Great Britain may press for action to aid the Armenians. The Porte denies refusing a second despatch boat for the U S Legation services but says the moment for reinforcement is inopportune and not yet settled.
A Lisbon despatch reports Governor General R. de Andrade of Goa was recalled after revelations that his telegrams described battles against rebels were false. He allegedly rewarded supporters, funded murders, and raised his own pay by three fourths amid the colony's upheaval.
Havana reports General Marin reaches Alguizar near rebels and Luque drives Martinez forces from San Juan with seven rebels killed and four prisoners taken. Rebels burn a train at San Felipe amid a raid that destroys a provision train south of Havana. Major Lopez is killed, Lt. Moncada assumes command and later reinforcements arrive as cars burn and escape to open field. Reports also note General Campos arriving at Coruna in civilian clothes with a gun salute and reception, while a separate Spanish raid near Esperanza sees a detachment killed and a later clash defeated by Colonel Fajada’s troops.
